I see that there is already an excellent review of this book on the blog. I don't think I can add more. I found this book to be a wonderfully written story about the brutality of slavery, war, and the courage of one's convictions. Wonderful attention to detail also. Reading this book has made me nostalgic for the time when I was a young girl and read Little Women.
